My wife and I stayed at Cooks Oasis for 9 nights in December 2009 and for us it was perfect.
Jeff and Joan (the owners) made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. There are bicycles, kayaks and snorkelling gear here that guests can use anytime at no charge. Free internet is also available so bring your laptop. There are plenty of books to borrow or swap from the office library. Also a good collection of DVDs for borrowing. There was an air conditioner in our bungalow but we never used it. It did get quite hot during the day but nights were much cooler and we found that the ceiling fan was good enough.
We like to cook most of our own meals and our bungalow (right next to the pool) had everything we needed – fridge, gas burners, and microwave. There is also a barbecue next to the pool which we used most nights to grill broadbill fish. Groceries can be purchased at the local farmers market or grocery store which are both in town (about 25 minutes by bicycle or 15 minutes by local bus). A 15 minute bike ride will also get you to the fresh fish store (Ocean Fresh). There are several restaurants within walking distance.
The beach is a short 2 minute walk from the Cooks Oasis. Want to go to another beach and don’t want to bike? Just take the bus. There are “counter clockwise” and “clockwise” buses running regularly and the stop is just down the road from the Cooks Oasis. It is only 32 kilometers around the island.
The best part of the stay was that it felt like a home away from home...it was relaxing and the owners offered all kinds of suggestions. Where is the best snorkelling? Where to run? Just ask Jeff and Joan.
Tourism is the number one business on the Cook Islands but it does not feel really touristy. It is very relaxed with no pressure. The people are so friendly...great place to be!!

During the run, the leaders call "On On" when they see the chalk and paper trail that marks the course, until they reach a point marked "OH" - on home)

On the right is Steph. At HHH, she received the "Down down" for an indiscretion - in this case the indiscretion was wearing new running shoes to Hash! (Not wise anyway as if there is any mud or water in the streams, you can guarantee that the course will take you through it.). The "Down down" consists of being "forced" to drink beer with vocal accompanyment.

Helle, Gianna, Kenneth and Frederik as often seen - riding the resort's bikes. During an eight week stay they circumnavigated the isalnd several times and took the bikes "everywhere". They also walked many of the mountain tracks, took part in local triathlons and duathlons, saw the Vaka Eiva, Tiare Festival and Gianna and Frederik even managed to get some homework done!
